Getting dressed again

I’ll admit it… I haven’t really been dressing up lately.

That’s not usually like me, but having a lot of time off and spending more time at home has definitely turned my uniform into sweatpants and my favorite Old Navy sweater.

Today, I wanted to mix it up.

A friend gifted me this beautiful swirly-print dress, and I’ve been wanting to style it. Since I actually had somewhere to go today! a little lunch date! I finally had the perfect excuse.

I paired it with knee-high leg warmers and black boots, and suddenly I felt like me again.

I’m really starting to get into the fall season, too. I’m ready for pumpkin spice everything, haunted houses, corn mazes, and, obviously, dressing up.

I’m realizing there’s a huge difference between getting dressed and just putting on clothes.

Putting on clothes is the bare minimum. It’s getting dressed because you have to exist in society that day.

Getting dressed is different.

Getting dressed is showing your personality. It’s choosing things because you love them. It’s showing up as 100% yourself instead of just putting something on and calling it good.

I was so happy I got dressed today instead of reaching for my sweatpants. It made me feel like I was showing up for myself in a way I don’t get from wearing pajamas all day.

And honestly, I missed that feeling.

I can’t wait to see what other outfits I come up with this fall. I have a feeling this season is going to be a fun one.

Happy fall, y’all!
