I heard a popular beauty influencer say that red lipstick should be left in 2016 unless you’re Taylor Swift.
I have never disagreed with a statement more.
I love red lipstick. It’s such a powerful, feminine color. It has survived decades of beauty trends, so saying it’s “out of style” feels a little out of touch to me.
Rosie the Riveter. Marilyn Monroe. Taylor Swift. Red lipstick has been a beauty staple through every trend cycle we’ve had for decades.
That’s the thing about red lipstick: you can throw it on with no other makeup and somehow it still looks chic. It works with every outfit, every aesthetic, and every skin tone.
I think it’s important to remember that trends are suggestions, not rules. If you love something, you don’t need permission from the internet to keep wearing it.
I love the Pound Cake red lipsticks because they make different shades for different skin tones, so you can find one that really complements you. Plus, as a bonus, they smell like cake batter!
So TikTok can leave behind red lipstick if it wants to.
But me? You’ll have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands.
