Here are three things I’ve thrifted recently and given a little makeover to. Some needed a tiny adjustment, some needed a little more imagination, and all needed some help from my favorite sewing wizard.
Dress #1
I actually made a whole post about this dress if you want the more in-depth story behind the flip! I found this beautiful dress for just $6 and knew I wanted to give it a little update. I have a wonderful friend Aaron who helped me hem it for free, which I’m very grateful for, but if you ever find a dress you love that just needs a little hemming, it’s a pretty inexpensive alteration to have done. Sometimes a small change is all a thrifted piece needs to become something you’ll actually want to wear.
Dress #2
When I found this dress, I immediately saw the potential for an adorable babydoll dress. I ripped the lace off the bottom, had my amazing friend Aaron hem it for me (again, for free!), and then decided I wasn’t going to let that lace go to waste. I turned it into little lace cuffs for my ankles that can be worn with any socks! I sewed those myself in one day, and honestly, I love that I got a whole extra accessory out of the scraps.
T shirt to Tube top
My third flip started with a T-shirt sitting in my closet that I knew I wanted to turn into a fitted tube top. Once again, I had the vision and Aaron had the sewing skills to bring it to life and the love for me to do it for free. I started by hand-stitching it to myself (yes, I actually did the hand sewing!), and then he went over my stitching with a sewing machine to make it stronger. He also hemmed the top so it would fit my body better. I still want to add some ribbon straps to finish it off, but I already love how it turned out. This one is an example of how you don’t even need to go to the store to find stuff. I have had this shirt since I was 16 and just wasn’t crazy about it anymore. But now? I’m obsessed!
