Long Live Gingham!

Gingham has been popular in different decades for good reason. From the 1930s and 1940s, with Dorothy’s iconic dress from The Wizard of Oz, to the 1950s and 1960s, when Brigitte Bardot popularized it in France with a more high-end look.

And now, in 2026, it’s back!

Here’s an example of how I style it. I think keeping the rest of the outfit monochromatic helps draw the eye to the statement skirt. I also think you have to be a little careful with gingham and other patterns so things don’t start clashing. But of course, wear whatever you want! If mixing patterns and going crazy is your thing, by all means, do it.

I styled my gingham skirt with a light pink bamboo tank top, leather flip-flops, my pink slouch bag, and a pair of pink headphones. I think this adds a modern twist to a timeless garment while still letting the gingham be the star of the outfit.

I’d love to hear how you style your gingham—or if you’re taking part in this trend!

Long live gingham!
